Elm Ridge Police Department Announces New Drone as A First Responder (DFR) System to Respond to Emergencies Immediately

The Flock DFR Program will be deployed across the district from a remote dock to respond in less than 90 seconds.

Wednesday, May 6, 2026 – Elm Ridge Police Department today announced that they will deploy a new Drone as a First Responder (DFR) system to respond to emergency incidents and calls for service faster and more safely. The Flock DFR system is provided by Flock Safety and is the most advanced DFR system available, capable of flying up to 200 feet without a visual observer.

The Flock DFR system can reach anywhere within a 4-mile radius and have an average response time of 85 seconds.

The DFR system integrates with Elm Ridge Police’s existing License Plate Reader (LPR) and video cameras, speeding response times from a camera alert on a stolen vehicle, known wanted offender, or detected missing person to drone dispatch. All of these systems are integrated within a comprehensive real time operational framework.
