As the Fourth of July approaches, it is a time of celebration and gatherings with loved ones. To ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone, it is crucial to prioritize safety in your festivities. This guide provides tips for having a safe and exciting Fourth of July:

  • Reminder that fireworks are prohibited on Elm Ridge streets, sidewalks, and greenbelts within the District.
  • Keep a strong water source nearby to extinguish any potential fires.

  • Instead of sparklers for children, consider these.

    • Glow sticks, confetti cannon or poppers, colorful streamers, silly string.

Boating and Swimming Safety

  • Always wear life jackets when swimming, regardless of skill level or comfort

  • Always supervise children when they are in or near water

  • Ensure everyone knows how to swim and never swim alone

  • Be aware of local water conditions and follow safety guidelines

  • Never drink and drive, boats or any recreational vehicles

  • Keep a first aid kit nearby pools or on the boat

BBQ Safety

  • Keep grills at least 10 feet away from your house or other flammable materials.

  • Never leave the grill unattended while in use.

  • Use long-handled tools to avoid burns.

  • Keep a fire extinguisher or a water source nearby.

Drinking Safety

  • Plan Ahead: There are plenty of ways to avoid drinking and driving, Designated drivers, Ride services, and taxis. Remember, drinking and driving is not only a crime, but is extremely dangerous for both yourself and others.
